Position Title:     Assistant Director of Food Service – Quality and Compliance
Classification:     RSSSA – 12-month
Position Range: Range 3
Reports To:         Director of Food Service
 
Position Goal: To assist the Director of Food Service in the management and supervision of the production and service of food in support of the educational system of the District.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
Assist with the preparation and submission of State and Federal compliance reports.
Oversee implementation of the School Breakfast Program (SBP), National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), After School Snack Program (ASP), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Summer Feeding Service Program (SFSP).
Observe kitchen operations and identify strengths and areas needed for improvement and give feedback and assistance to the cafeteria staff.
To ensure compliance with all Food Safety regulations and following the HACCP procedures.
To assist in the preparation of the annual food service budget and routine monitoring of expenses and revenues.
Coordinate, facilitate, and/or schedule regular and on-going training for newly hired and current Kitchen staff related to physical safety, proper equipment use, and food safety.
Report concerns or issues directly to Food Service Director in a timely manner.
Conduct administrative and on-sight reviews to ascertain compliance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
Assist Food Services Director in dealings with the Department of Education regarding facility inspections and audits.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director or his/her designee.  This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Supervises all food service staff as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

High School diploma required; Specialized training in food preparation and/or food management with demonstrable computer, record keeping, and communication skills
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the child nutrition (K – 12) field; Experience in teaching and conducting training programs

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Serv-Safe Certification required. Certified Dietary Manager preferred; Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as food safety rules, union contracts, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical  procedures and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Basic knowledge of computer and POS systems (PrimeroEdge)
Knowledge of the Reading community and pediatric population
Sensitive to diverse cultures
Aptitude for creative endeavors such as writing, oral presentations, and food merchandising
Knowledge of the National School Lunch Program

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full time, 12 month exempt position.  Salary and benefits determined by appropriate employment agreement.

The employee will be formally evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the RSSSA agreement and Board Policy.
